The Cinque Terre and its 5 welcoming villages (Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Manarola, Corniglia and Riomaggiore) are cling to rocky spurs or nestled in narrow coves. This coast is part of an Italian National Park, declared in 2001 thanks to its rare species of flora and fauna. The landscape is authentic and intimate. The famous terraced agricultural areas and small, colorful villages are also protected. The coastal paths or those at high altitude on the ridges, in the vineyards or among the olive and lemon trees, offer panoramic views of the Mediterranean. Sometimes little used, they run along the slopes, linking hamlets accessible only on foot and descending in steps to the old fishing villages, surrounded by multi-colored boats.
